Abstract: Worldwide, many universities are investing in faculty development programs, aiming to improve their staff’s teaching abilities. This work uses the case of the Diploma in University Teaching from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso to illustrate the use of an event study as an impact evaluation tool of this kindof interventions. The results show an improvement i teacher’s evaluation in the same semester in which the diploma is taken, between 0,11 and 0,22 standard deviations. There is a smallstructural rise in the trajectoryof results. In contrast, there is no suggest that mere participation in the diploma is not wnough to assure improvement in student performance. These results are in line with previous literature in primary education, that indicates that the intensity of the training program is key and low-intensity programs do not lead to an improvement in students learning outcomes.
