Pre-doctoral research assistant position in Economics

I am looking for a highly skilled and motivated person to work as a full-time research professional for a period of one to two years. Start date subject to negotiation, may be as early as August 2022. This person will work and be supervised by me (and interact with some of my coauthors). The position will be based at PUC-Chile.
The research in which the person will be involved relates, mostly, to several on-going projects that study determinants of educational outcomes in several dimensions using typically, but not exclusively, data coming from randomized control trials. The projects typically also study mechanisms to explain the results. The projects are in different stages: some of them in the field now, some are in the process of analyzing the data and
writing the papers, and some of them are in the final stages of the publication process.

The ideal candidate should have a long-term interest in pursuing research in economics. Since I am a professor at PUC-Chile, 51 of my former students and research assistants have started PhD studies in different universities and programs. The placement of my former students in the last five years include: Berkeley Economics, BU Economics, Chicago Public Policies, Columbia Economics and Education, LSE Economics, Maryland Economics, Michigan Economics, Minnesota Economics, MIT Economics (x2), Northwestern Economics (x3), NYU Economics, UBC Economics, UC Davis ARE, Wharton Health Care Management and Economics, and Yale Economics.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support my ongoing research projects, compile, manipulate, and analyze data using various software pack-
ages.

Obtain and organize information for research from academic sources and people.

Proofreads of working papers, and publications.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Bachelors degree in required. Master studies in economics is a plus.

Relevant research experience preferred.

Familiarity with statistics software such as Stata and R.

Familiarity with programming languages such as Python and SQL preferred.

Courses in econometrics and statistics required.

Knowledge of research techniques or methods required.

Analytical and problem solving skills required.

Excellent and professional verbal and written skills, as well as organizational skills and attention to detail,
required.

Strong problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously are required.

Ability to work well independently, as well as with others, and to meet deadlines under pressure is required.

Ability to seek out, coordinate, and appropriately disseminate information required.

Strong computer skills required.
