Abstract

This study examines the short-term effects of emergency multipurpose cash transfers provided to vulnerable migrants in urban and peri-urban areas of Colombia. Utilizing administrative and survey data from a sample of more than 3,000 migrants, we apply a sharp regression discontinuity design based on the eligibility criteria of the program. Our findings indicate that 1–3 months after exiting the program, treated households experience increases in income and expenditures, reduced levels of food insecurity, and a decreased reliance on coping strategies. Additionally, we observe significant reductions in perceptions of discrimination and insecurity, with beneficiaries reporting higher levels of life satisfaction.
